Pacific Island Weaving

About

Pacific Island Weaving was created to showcase and celebrate the weaving skills of local Pacific Island weavers, artists and creatives.

Many of these weaving techniques are common across several Pacific Islands and are part of everyday objects or material culture, including bags, mats, accessories and home furnishings.

Founded in Cleveland, Queensland on beautiful Quandamooka Country, Pacific Island Weaving seeks to bring people together using some treasured Pasifika weaving crafts.

Pacific Island Weaving is managed and facilitated by Cultural Educator & Practitioner, artist and weaver Ranu James (PNG-Australian) and weaving artist Maryann Talia Pau (Samoan).

Our workshops cater to beginners and medium skill levels and are mainly for adults but there are some workshops, like our star weaving workshops, that welcome children from 10 years of age.
